Gas prices spiking up to $6 a gallon in Bay Area
Mar 06, 2026
MARIN, Calif. (KRON) -- Drivers filling up at a Marin County gas station said prices are downright "outrageous." Prices at the pump continued climbing Friday in the Bay Area, and AAA says they are recording enormous spikes statewide.
At one Chevron gas station in Marin County, prices jumped 40 cent
s within hours, from $5.29 to $5.69 per gallon. One man who was filling up his car with diesel felt an even bigger pinch at $7 a gallon. Supreme gas rose to $6.09.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped nearly 27 cents since last week, to $3.25.
AAA wrote, "The conflict in the Middle East has sent crude oil prices higher to the mid $70/barrel range. The recent increase puts the national average at the same price as it was in early April of 2025. Springtime typically sees higher gas prices as gasoline demand rises and summer-blend gasoline production begins. The last time the national average made a similar weekly jump was back in March of 2022 during the start of the Russia/Ukraine conflict."
Stocks drop after oil spikes to its highest price since the summer of 2024
California has the most expensive gasoline in the country, with an average price of $4.81. The nation’s least expensive gasoline markets are Oklahoma ($2.79), Mississippi ($2.81), and Kansas ($2.83).
