GEORGETOWN, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Authorities in Georgetown are warning residents about a scam involving callers posing as police officers. According to the Georgetown Police Department, an older resident contacted police after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be an officer. The resident told police the caller attempted to scare them into sending money to resolve a supposed legal issue. Officials emphasize that law enforcement will never call and demand payment over the phone. Police say scammers often try to create panic or urgency to pressure victims into sending money quickly.
