Man suspected of sexually assaulting Morgan Hill girl after meeting on Snapchat

A 21-year-old man who allegedly raped a 12-year-old Morgan Hill girl after arranging to meet her on Snapchat was arrested this week, police said.
Alexis Javier Mendez-Gallardo, a resident of Freedom in Santa Cruz County, allegedly communicated with the girl on social media.
“Detectives deter
mined the suspect arranged to meet the victim and subsequently picked her up from her residence in Morgan Hill,” police said in a news release on Thursday.
On Feb. 12, Morgan Hill police responded to a report that the girl had been sexually assaulted. Mendez-Gallardo was identified as a suspect and detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Wednesday, coordinating with Watsonville police to arrest him.
He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of crimes that include rape of a child under 14, oral copulation of a child under 14, sexual penetration of a child under 14, lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purpose.
