Police in Pleasanton are investigating a series of residential break-ins that began in late February, including two cases where suspects confronted people inside their homes.
In a statement on social media, the Pleasanton Police Department said several break-ins have been reported since Feb. 27,
and investigators believe at least some of the cases may be related.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, a resident on Mohr Avenue encountered a suspect in his backyard. Police said the suspect displayed a handgun and forced the man back into the home, where the resident and his wife were both struck before the suspect fled by jumping over nearby fences.
Officers searched the area with drones and a police dog but were unable to locate the suspect. The firearm was not discharged.
The suspect in that case was described as a light-skinned Black man, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and was wearing a dark clothing and a mask.
In an earlier case, shortly before 7 p.m. on Feb. 27, a suspect entered a home on Hansen Drive, where a teenage resident encountered him. Police said the suspect sprayed the teen with pepper spray before fleeing.
Another theft was reported in the same area that day. Security footage from the home showed a man wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and white shoes.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the cases and asked anyone with information to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
Police also urge residents to ensure home security cameras are working, activate alarm systems and keep doors and windows locked even when at home.
