The Mercer County CYO’s Senior High School Basketball All-Star games will celebrate their Silver Anniversary Sunday at Trenton’s CYO Center (920 South Broad St.). For 25 years, the local Catholic Youth Organization has invited some of the top senior boys’ and girls’ basketball players from a round the county to play together one last time before they head off to college with a season-ending game at the historic venue. This year, the boys will play first at 1 p.m. with the girls to follow around 2:45 p.m. Between the games, the Jack Cryan award will be presented to Lawrence High’s Michael Carrick, the Renee Keister award will be presented to Princeton High’s Leah Bornstein and the John “Mincey” Manczak CYO Referee of the Year award will be presented to Anthony Giordano. Carrick and Bornstein are among the 60 graduating players chosen by the organization to participate in the CYO All-Star Games, sponsored by Capital City Vending, The Bank of Princeton, DJ Nebbs Entertainment and IAABO Board 193. Carrick will be joined by his Cardinals teammate Marvin McNeill. Also invited for the squads coached by Khalid Lewis and Paul Jones are Hightstown’s Jackson White and Caden Mamore; Thrive Charter’s Teriyon Page, Kim Ross, Marjon Skillman, Tyler Hammond and Javion Cesar Jones; Trenton’s Stalin Hernandez, Juan Sanchez, Donald Jackson, Germari Davidson and Jaydon English-Fulton; Allentown’s Ethan Eskow and Tyler Pusczkov; Hamilton West’s Karelle Miller; the Hun School’s Eshan Kulkarni and Charlie Julianna; Steinert’s Morris Karbah and Frankie Mazzella; Hopewell Valley’s Christian Heide, Kyle Yadamiec, Ty Becker and Grayson Vlasac; Princeton’s Sam Raymond and Zion Madden; Notre Dame’s Lucas Chuderwicz, Colin Cunningham and Will Foley; Ewing’s Kris Thomas, Terrance Traylor, Hyshyon Cannon, Jessiah Stephenson and Shawn Robertson; West Windsor-Plainsboro North’s Aarav Mohan; plus the Pennington School’s Dylan Napoleon. Bornstein will be joined by her Tigers teammates Sephora Romain, Anna Winters and Katie Sharkey. Also available for the clubs coached by Joe Smiegocki, Mike Kostinas, Jay Corby, Patrick Reddington, Jenna Marcus and Dan Montferrat are Notre Dame’s Reese Parker, Caroline Foley and Victoria Bucchere; Steinert’s Naomi Gray; Thrive Charter’s Olivia Moore and SondJane Daudin; Hamilton West’s Kimani Harlan; Lawrence’s Kimyah Carter and Amber Wooding; Trenton’s Angelie Pacheco; Princeton Day School’s Nica Martin and Sophia Rae Barber; Allentown’s Kailyn Prekop and Makayla Rondinelli; Hightstown’s Anisa Mascoll; Hopewell Valley’s Kellen Danieluk and Katie Reinhart; as well as Ewing’s Taylor Williams and Lillie Alston. All these players will go at it one more time Sunday in hopes of earning the coveted Andrew Kusnirik and Sandra Valenza Oropel trophies, presented to the respective boys’ and girls’ Most Valuable Players from the games. As a bonus, beginning this Anniversary year, the Andy Kusnirik III scholarship will be given out to honor the memory of Andrew’s son, who passed away recently after being a key contributor in the Mercer County basketball community for many years. ...read more read less
