Miners boy’s lacrosse dominates Lone Peak to open season
Mar 06, 2026
The Miners boy’s lacrosse team is chasing their first state title since the 2023 season this spring.
Looking to strengthen themselves in the lead up to May’s postseason, Park City scheduled a tough non-regional schedule like always, including Lone Peak in their season opener Wednesday evenin

Lone Peak is a larger, 6A school, who made the playoff semifinals last season.
While the Miners did their best with scheduling, it became apparent early in Wednesday’s game that Lone Peak wouldn’t provide the challenge that Park City sought.
After conceding the game’s first goal less than two minutes into the game at Quinn’s Junction, the Miners’ new home this spring while Dozier Field is under construction, Park City went on the attack. The Miners dominated possession and the scoreboard, capitalizing on chances right in front of the Lone Peak net. Park City took a 9-1 lead into the game’s second quarter, extending the lead to 15-1 at halftime and finishing with a 21-3 victory.

Junior attacker and midfielder Henry Alnwick, who led the Miners last season with 55 points, dominated Lone Peak with five goals and three assists. Senior attacker Tommy Fannon also had four goals. Head coach Michael Persky tabbed junior midfielder Carson Riely, who won 19 of his 23 faceoffs Wednesday in his varsity debut, as another star player from the win.
“I think the boys played really well,” Persky said. “They played really hard and as a team. Lots of positives in this first game for us.”
In addition to the Miners’ dominant ball control and knack for finding the back of the Lone Peak net, Persky said his team also played good defense when needed. He also loved how the offense spread the ball around to different players.
“This was the first game in the beginning of a very long season,” Persky said. “I think the boys did the best they could in this first situation, and we have a lot of work to do to get better.”
Persky would like to see his team continue to build off the momentum Wednesday’s game created. Park City next welcomes Bountiful to Quinn’s Junction next Friday at 7 p.m., before hitting the road for the rest of the month, including an annual trip to Colorado to play Cherry Creek and Valor Christian.
The Miners were hoping for Dozier Field-like support at Quinn’s Junction, which they about had Wednesday night, with fans packing the banks of the field as the sun set behind the Wasatch Range.
“Hope I can build off it and continue in the next game,” Riely said about his strong debut. “What I’m going to do is just keep taking reps and getting my mind right before the next game.”
