COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection to a Wednesday afternoon shooting on a woman in a housing addition in Columbus, police said Thursday.
No court case has been filed as of Wednesday afternoon against Skyler Vera, of Columbus, but the Columbus Police Depart
ment on social media said he faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Columbus Police Department officers said the shooting of an 18-year-old woman from Seymour was reported just after 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Cottage Avenue. That’s in the William M. Graves addition, according to online property records. It’s just a block west of Central Avenue.
Police said Thursday that the woman was last known to be stable in an Indianapolis hospital. Authorities think Vera and the woman knew each other and described the shooting as an isolated incident. Police have not released the name of the woman, or said what may have led to the shooting. Investigators, though, recovered a firearm at the shooting scene.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the Columbus Police Department at 812-376-2600.
