CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Carmel boys basketball tips off its postseason on Friday, looking to win its first state championship in five seasons. Carmel had itself a good regular season, going 16-5 and is ranked No. 10. A key reason for Carmel’s success this season is senior forward Evan H arrell. Harrell led Carmel in scoring with over 16 points per game and in rebounding with nearly eight boards per game. Harrell is excited to get on the floor and try to bring another state championship back to Carmel. “It would mean a lot to this school, get Carmel back on the map is really what we’re looking forward to and I think it would mean a lot to me. Last couple seasons haven’t been the best so I think leading this team into a deep tournament run will be really cool.” player “Evan has a lot of experience. He’s played with us a little bit since his freshman year all the way up to his senior year. To watch him mature, he’s versatile in his skill. Letting the game come to him a little bit more, not forcing the issue, playing with better pace, making better decisions.” “Before the season started, and probably last year as well, I wasn’t really a leader at all. I wasn’t vocal around guys as much. Harrell is committed to play at Bellarmine next season. Harrell and the Greyhounds are scheduled to tip off against Noblesville in the sectional semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m. For more on Evan Harrell, watch the video above. ...read more read less
