William Chris Wine Company is putting a stamp on downtown Hye. The Hill Country winery is opening a new tasting room inside the historic Hye Post Office at 10261 US-290 to showcase its new sparkling wine brand, Rebecca Caroline. The Rebecca Caroline tasting room, set to debut in the summer, is locat ed inside one of the Hill Country town’s most famous landmarks. Hiram “Hye” Brown, the town’s namesake, built the structure in 1904 from designs he scouted in a catalogue. According to local lore, President Lyndon B. Johnson mailed his first letter there when he was only four years old. 50 years later, he swore in his new Postmaster General, Lawrence F. O’Brien.More recently, the post office has served as a general store and restaurant.
