On Saturday, Feb. 28, players, coaches, umpires, parents and dignitaries gathered at the city’s Morrison Park to celebrate the annual rite.

After a ceremony, young athletes in the league’s 3- and 4-year-old division took the field.
Boys and girls clad in Dodger blue and Angels red did their best to hit the ball off a tee, field ground balls and run the bases as the crowd cheered.
And a new season of youth baseball had begun.
