South Public Coop Ice Hockey: Robbinsville/Allentown faces North Hunterdon in sectional final
Mar 04, 2026
When the Colonial Valley Conference Tournament got underway the Robbinsville/Allentown ice hockey team made a pact and the talented group has kept to its word.
“We will skate until they make us stop,” was the decision of the team, and seven games — and six wins later — Robbinsville/Allento
wn is headed to the South Public Co-op sectional final.
“We don’t want to see it end,’’ added coach Dan Bergan ahead of a meeting with North Hunterdon on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the Codey Arena in West Orange.
The winner advances to the state final at the Prudential Center on Monday.
No. 2 Robbinsville/Allentown (21-5) faced No. 4 North Hunterdon (18-6-1) just before the Christmas break and came away with a 2-1 win, but a few things have changed since then.
North Hunterdon has gone 14-3 since that game and on Monday knocked off top-seeded Toms River East.
The fact they are facing a team for the second time doesn’t concern Bergan.
“All it means is I know how tough they are to beat,’’ said Bergan. “Otherwise you could hope another team matches up favorably.’’
Not many teams have matched up favorably to the Ravens, who have one of the most lethal attacks in the state.
It is led by the state’s top scorer, Jake Lachance, who has 52 goals and 33 assists and has stepped up come tournament time with 15 goals and six assists.
Another senior James Morino, who scored both goals in R/A’s regular season win over NH, has 19 goals and 39 assists, senior Jack Lawrence has 20 goals and 33 assists and junior Cole Martinez has 18 goals and 16 assists.
Senior Michael Buchanan leads the defense and also adds some firepower with 19 assists and sophomore Tyler Wagner has been solid in the goal and had 43 saves in the semifinal win over Manasquan.
“The greatest strength has been our cohesiveness and recognizing the opportunity we have,’’ said Bergan, of his troops. We are making sure we do things right so there are no regrets.’’
There definitely have been no regrets to this point and this group has risen to the occasion at every crossroads.
It handled top CVC rival Paul VI twice, including the CVC Tournament championship, it rallied in overtime to beat Marlboro in the sectional quarterfinals and held off a good Manasquan team to reach the sectional final.
Junior Dylan Swon leads North Hunterdon with 24 goals and 26 assists, junior Dominic Moushon has 21 goals and 27 assists and Logan Konstalid has a 1.84 goals against average.
North Hunterdon lost the Skyland Conference final to Bridgewater-Raritan, 6-5 in overtime. Bridgewater-Raritan is 21-3-1 and in the South Public final.
So, what concerns Bergan about the Skyland Conference tournament finalist?
“Goaltending. Goaltending. Goaltending,’’ declared Bergan. “Konstalid is as good as you will see at this stage of a goalie’s development. They have some potent scorers in Moushon and Swon and solid defenders at the blueline. I guess that just says that at this level there are not going to be any big holes in to exploit.’’
You have to believe that somehow and some way the Robbinsville/Allentown gang will find a way.
