LPM News compiled details about some events where voters can learn more about candidates’ priorities.The Floyd County Republican Party wi ll host Republican candidates in contested state and local races at a forum Thursday, March 5. It’s at 6:30 p.m. at The Grand, 138 E. Market St., in New Albany.For Floyd County voters, five seats have contested Republican primaries this year:State Rep. District 70 (includes all of Harrison and parts of Clark, Floyd and Washington counties)State Rep. District 71 (includes part of Clark and Floyd counties)State Rep. District 72 (includes most of Floyd County)SheriffFloyd Superior Court 3 judge Three of those seats will have new leaders for the first time in a decade or more.Republican District 70 Rep. Karen Engleman, Republican District 72 Rep. Ed Clere and Democratic Floyd Superior Court 3 Judge Maria Granger all announced they are not seeking new terms.Indiana’s Ninth District Democratic Party is hosting a series of debates for the Democratic candidates seeking to represent Southern Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.All four Democrats running for the Ninth U.S. Congressional District seat — Brad Meyer, Jim Graham, Tim Peck and Keil Roark — have agreed to debates:New Albany: Sunday, March 22 at 1:30 p.m., The Grand, 138 E. Market St.Bloomington: Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m., Bloomington City Hall, 401 N. Morton St.Lawrenceburg: Wednesday, April 8 at 6 p.m., Whisky City’s Liberty Theater, 229 Walnut St.The events will run 90 minutes and include moderated questions and opening and closing statements, according to a news release. They’ll also be livestreamed on the district’s Facebook page.“Hoosiers are rightly concerned about the direction of our nation,” Adam Dickey, Ninth District Democratic Party chair said in the release. “This debate series offers voters an opportunity to engage with our party’s candidates and offer a transparent look at the candidates’ platform ahead of the primary election.”Dickey also chairs the Floyd County Democratic Party.The Democratic primary winner will face Republican incumbent Erin Houchin in November. Dickey said he hopes she will agree to a debate ahead of the general election, unlike in years past.The Floyd County Democratic Women’s Caucus will host a meet-the-candidates event at 6 p.m., April 9 at the 40 8 Voiture 1250 Veterans Club, at 221 Albany St., in New Albany.Residents may register to vote or update their registration at indianavoters.com.Additional election and voting information for Floyd County voters is available here and for Clark County voters online here.The primary election is May 5.Coverage of Southern Indiana is funded, in part, by Samtec Inc., the Hazel Walter T.
