BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two students at Brunswick High School were separated and provided with decontamination measures after an incident involving pepper spray Tuesday afternoon. In a message sent to the Brunswick High School community, principal Ronald Thornhill said the incident took pla ce at about 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, and involved two students and the use of pepper spray. According to Thornhill, staff responded immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of both students and staff. The two students were reportedly separated and "precautionary decontamination" measures were taken, Thornhill said. Emergency medical staff and law enforcement were also notified to assess the students -- the School Resource Officers helped to address the situation and securing the area, per Thornhill. Other students nearby reported discomfort due to proximity to the incident and were provided the opportunity to be evaluated by the school nurse and relocated to a separate area, if necessary. "The incident was contained quickly, and there was no ongoing threat to students or staff," Thornhill said in the message. "School operations continued as normal." He added that the school will continue to reinforce expectations about prohibited items and appropriate student conduct. ...read more read less
