FORT MILL, S.C. – The state of South Carolina is halting operations at Silfab’s solar plant in Fort Mill. The moves comes after a chemical spill earlier Tuesday, consisting of around 300-gallons of potassium hydroxide. That chemical is used in making several products, including batteries. Aut horities in York County and Silfab execs say there is no danger to the public. Nearby Fort Mill schools say they have not registered any potential contaminants on their air monitoring systems. In a statement to WCCB Charlotte, Silfab officials said the spill will be fully cleaned-up by the end of the day on Tuesday.
