Sports fans in the Park City area with plans to travel to Los Angeles for the 2028 Summer Olympics have an opportunity in the coming weeks to score tickets to the competitions. The registration window is open for people to secure a time slot to purchase tickets from the first tranche that will b e released. The window closes on March 18. The organizing committee preparing for the Games in 2028 plans to notify people of time slots from March 31 until April 7, with a presale from April 2 until April 6 for residents of certain counties in the Games regions. Tickets will then be sold to others within the time slots from April 9 to April 19. The LA28 group in late February said the number of registrations for ticketing topped 5 million. There will be other tranches of tickets sold later. The Winter Olympics in Utah will follow six years after the Games in Los Angeles, and Utah 2034 organizers are watching the ticketing process for 2028. The organizing committee said it is aware of the methodology the Los Angeles Games is using but said ticket sale details for the 2034 Games won’t be finalized until perhaps 2032. Utah 2034 said on Monday that the bid filing submitted to the International Olympic Committee before the Games were awarded indicated nearly 2.8 million spectators are estimated to attend, but it did not specify the number of tickets that will be available. Some of the tickets, though, will be priced at $34. Tom Kelly, a spokesperson for Utah 2034, said the delegation from the state learned about the ticketing systems during the recent trip to Italy. “The ticketing app used by Milano Cortina was a big success. It was easy to use to purchase tickets. And it also had a ticket resale component, which allowed any ticket purchaser to resell their tickets on the official platform. That was a very positive observation for Utah 2034,” he said. Kelly also noted that the “ticket sales for Milano Cortina skyrocketed as Italy started to win medals early in the Games. It achieved its ticketing goals with five days to go.” The Utah 2034 organizers are expected to study various aspects of the Los Angeles Games, with just six years separating the two events. The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles are the first Games in the U.S. since Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002. There are numerous similarities between the Summer Olympics and the Winter Games, including some of the internal operations like ticketing, though the scale of the summertime event is significantly larger.  The Park City area is crucial to the overall Games plans with Park City Mountain, Deer Valley Resort and the Utah Olympic Park slated to host competitions, as was the case in 2002. The community will be important as the transportation, security and celebration details are crafted. The competitions that were held in 2002 at the three Park City-area venues drew large crowds that jammed into temporary stadiums constructed for the Games. Tickets were highly sought after for many of the competitions. The organizing committee that staged the Winter Olympics in 2002 provided numbers in its final report showing: 99.8% of the tickets available to competitions at Park City Mountain were sold,  totaling nearly 96,000 spectators. The resort hosted ski racing and snowboarding competitions. 99.4% of the tickets available to competitions at Deer Valley were sold, totaling nearly 97,000 spectators. The resort hosted ski racing and freestyle skiing competitions. 96.5% of the tickets available to competitions at the Utah Olympic Park were sold, totaling just more than 295,000 spectators. The park hosted ski jumping and the sliding sports.
