TikTok users in several major U.S. cities reported what appeared to be an outage starting Tuesday afternoon. According to DownDetector, reports of outages started climbing just before 1 p.m. The number of outages reported plateaued around there until about 3:30 p.m., when outages spiked once aga in. There were thousands of reports of a TikTok outage by 9 p.m. That number continued to grow into the night. New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles were among the areas where an outage had been reported, along with cities like San Diego, Phoenix, Houston, Washington and Minneapolis, DownDetector showed. There was no immediate word on what may have caused the possible outage, or when it would be restored. An account on X appearing to be linked to the TikTok USDS Joint Venture pinned the blame on a data center for Oracle, which is part of the group that took control of 80% of the social media site in the U.S. earlier in the year. In the post, the account stated that “creators may temporarily experience lags in posting content” as the company worked to fix the issue. This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
