(KRON) -- Authorities in the North Bay impounded two BMWs on Monday after a California Highway Patrol officer witnessed the drivers racing each other while being filmed on Highway 101, according to the state law enforcement agency. The officer was patrolling northbound 101 in Cotati just after midn ight when he saw the two BMW sedans and a lowered pickup truck slow down to approximately 45 mph before the cars suddenly accelerated, authorities said. “The CHP officer notified nearby units and began catching up to the two sedans, now traveling in excess of 100 mph,” CHP wrote. “A second unit arrived, and both BMWs were pulled over.” Photo: CHP Santa RosaPhoto: CHP Santa Rosa While investigating the incident, CHP said it learned that the two BMW drivers were friends who were racing while being filmed by the truck. “Using our freeways for racing and content creation in such a careless and unsafe manner will never be tolerated,” said Captain Andre Sirenko of the CHP Santa Rosa Area office.
