Susan Marie Hunter, a beloved mother, grandmother, godmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on August 24, 1955, to Carl and Anita (Prairie) Hunter, Susan lived a life full of quiet strength, deep love and a genuine passion for helping others live well. She had a true love for healthy living, always experimenting with new recipes, recruiting family and friends as taste testers and encouraging everyone around her to get outside. She always said, “Take the stairs to get more exercise.” Though often quiet, she was remarkably strong and independent yet deeply loving and nurturing.
Susan grew up on a dairy farm in Alburgh, the third oldest in a family of 10 children. She was a resident of Swanton and a devoted and faithful member of the Church of the Nativity.
Professionally, Susan was resourceful and hardworking. She graduated from MVU High School and Fanny Allen School of Nursing. She taught at Rainbows End daycare, co-owned Swanton Car Wash, was a paraeducator at MVU and held a clerical position for a subcontractor of the immigration department.
Susan was welcomed into heaven, reunited with her parents, Anita and Carl Hunter, and heard the words she lived by in spirit: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family. Susan is survived by her sons Todd Hunter Ledoux, Adam Hunter Ledoux and his wife Jocelyn Medina, her granddaughter Ella Jade Ledoux, her siblings Beth Jette, Deborah Palmer, Gregory Hunter, Micheal Hunter, Sandra Murphy, Brian Hunter, Timothy Hunter, Cheryl Hettrick and Jennifer Luneau, and special friend Bernie Piche, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
