Philadelphia is among five cities that could host the Democratic National Convention in 2028.
On Monday, March 2, 2026, the DNC announced that Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Denver advanced in the application process to host their next convention, which is set to take place between Au
g. 7 and Aug. 10 in 2028.
DNC leadership and representatives of the Democratic party’s Technical Advisory Group will visit each of the cities to assess “the logistical and operational components of each city’s bid,” a spokesperson wrote. Deciding factors will include the ability to forge a strong partnership between the DNC and the host city and finding a city that shares Democratic values.
“The DNC is proud to be moving forward with our 2028 Democratic National Convention plans, another critical step toward retaking the White House and finally putting an end to Republicans’ betrayal of working families,” DNC Chair Ken Martin wrote. “We look forward to celebrating our future nominees on the national stage and highlighting Democrats’ commitment to building a better, safer, and more affordable future for our country.”
The last time Philadelphia hosted the DNC was in 2016 at the former Wells Fargo Center (currently the Xfinity Mobile Arena). Former U.S. Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton was chosen as the party’s nominee for president over Senator Bernie Sanders. Clinton would go on to lose the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump.
Philadelphia also hosted the 2000 Republican National Convention.
