CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Primary Election Day is Tuesday in Mecklenburg County and across North Carolina. We’re watching several key races, including the battle for Mecklenburg County Sheriff and the U.S. Senate.
Early voting ended Saturday, with over 56,000 ballots cast across Charlotte and Mecklen
burg County. Local elections officials say that is a stunning turnout. Meckleburg County Board of Elections director Michael Dickerson says, “We were about 40% higher for early voting than we were four years ago. So we really like those numbers. A lot of the early votes were were taken the Democratic ballot, so if that’s any indication…that’s where we were at.”
Polling places open at 6:30 Tuesday morning. You can check your voter registration and find your assigned polling place by visiting the North Carolina State Board of Elections website. Primary Election Day voting ends at 7:30 PM.
