phia.Held before each presidential election, the convention includes speeches from prominent Democrats and the party formally nominates its presidential and vice presidential candidates. Chicago hosted the 2024 Democratic National Convention, when the party nominated former Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to run against now-President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.“With our extensive track-record of safely and successfully hosting large-scale events, our vibrant and diverse culture, and our status as a world-class destination — we’re confident that Chicago is best positioned to put on a convention that matches the enthusiasm, success, and energy of the 2024 DNC,” the Chicago Bid Committee said in a statement. “The team that brought Democrats the best political convention is ready to do it again.”The Chicago Bid Committee submitted its proposal to host the event earlier this year and met with DNC officials in February to answer questions about the proposal and preparation to hold the event.Chicago’s bid video lauds the city as a political leader that is home to hard workers and high-profile Democrats like former President Barack Obama.
