SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A widespread outage appears to have taken the Claude AI chatbot offline Monday morning. The Downdetector website showed a spike in users reporting problems with the artificial intelligence platform beginning shortly after 3:30 a.m. User reports indicated problems with the A I's chatbot, app and website. Claude's status page indicated a series of issues with the platform. While fixes had been implemented for several issues, as of shortly before 9 a.m., the status page continued to report elevated errors. Block stock surges post layoffs, raising AI alarm bells "We are currently investigating this issue," read a status update on the page. The Claude outage comes just a few days after a very public fallout between the AI's parent company Anthropic and the Trump administration. President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly announced Friday that the administration would no longer use Claude after disputes with the AI company over how it would be deployed. At issue, according to a statement from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, were requests from the administration to use Claude for "mass domestic surveillance of Americans and fully autonomous weapons."
