The Ohio Controlling Board has approved more than $212,000 in capital funding for Cuyahoga Community College — also known as Tri-C — to upgrade and replace signage across 38 buildings on the school’s East, West, Metro, and Westshore campuses.
Funding will also support Tri-C’s Transportation
Innovation Center, which will incorporate recent name updates and ensure consistency and compliance with accessibility standards through braille, tactile, and visual elements.
Officials added that the projects will improve safety and campus navigation for students, staff, and visitors across the multi-campus system.
The allocation is part of more than $1.3 million in funding released by the Ohio Controlling Board to renovate higher education institutions and to renovate and expand permanent supportive housing throughout Cuyahoga County.
In a statement, Tri-C officials, expressing gratitude to the state, noted that the funding demonstrates a commitment to the sustained quality of higher education.
“The college and the Capital, Construction and Facilities Department are excited to start this project to help modernize and improve the flow of the buildings and redesign the physical spaces for our students, staff, and community….”
Tri-C Public Relations Manager Anthony Moujaes noted that the process will begin with a college-wide inventory of all interior and exterior signage.
“This (project) is a combination of updating older interior areas of our buildings to the existing wayfinding and signage standards, replacing exterior worn signage, and updating department name changes to modern standards,” he explained.
The school added that the entire scope of the project will be active for about 12 to 18 months.
