The Gatehouse is helping single women and mothers train for Texas' fastgrowing middleskill jobs market
Feb 28, 2026
NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 have partnered with The Gatehouse, a North Texas nonprofit that is empowering single women and mothers to move from temporary hardship to long-term self-sustainability through workforce credentials aligned with Texas’ fastest-growing job sectors.
Nearly half of Texas job
openings now target middle-skill professionals, roles that require education beyond high school but not necessarily a four-year degree, signaling a shift in the state’s economy toward skills-based hiring, according to research from Texas 2036 and the Texas Workforce Commission.
The Gatehouse offers a local, comprehensive solution that removes the barriers women often face in completing post-high school education programs, moving them toward long-term financial self-sustainability while building our workforce and strengthening our regional economy. Through its Vocation Track program, the nonprofit gives women the hand up needed to earn vocational certifications or STEM-focused associate degrees that lead directly to careers across a variety of fields, including:
Healthcare
Technology
Film and media production
Skilled trades
