A cause of death has been revealed for Lil Jon’s 27-year-old son, Nathan Smith, who was found dead in a pond near his Georgia home earlier this month.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed that Smith’s cause of death was “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use,” according to an aut
opsy report obtained by People. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
Per the report, Smith’s blood tested positive for “a pharmacologically active hallucinogenic compound of psilocybin — hallucinogenic mushrooms.” The autopsy showed no other signs of injury.
Smith, who went by the stage name DJ Young Slade, was found dead on Feb. 6, three days after family reported him missing “under unusual circumstances.” He was last seen alive leaving his home in Milton around 6 a.m. on Feb. 3, according to a missing person’s report.
The Milton Police Department noted at the time that he “ran out of his house,” did not possess a phone and “may be disoriented and in need of assistance.” His body was eventually discovered in a retention pond in Mayfield Park.
While there was no indication of foul play, cops said an investigation would remain “open and active” pending the autopsy report.
Lil Jon in a statement said he and Smith’s mother, Nicole Smith, were “extremely heartbroken” and “devastated” by their loss.
“Nathan was the kindest human being you would ever meet. He was immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate and warmhearted,” the rapper wrote on social media.
“He was an amazingly talented young man; a music producer, an artist and engineer, and graduate of NYU,” the statement continued. “We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him.”
Like his Grammy-winning father, Smith has been pursuing a career in music, dropping his most recent single, “Feels,” in March 2025.
