SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Emergency crews responded to a fatal shooting involving three victims Friday morning in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
At 10:04 a.m., police responded to the area of 25th and Dakota streets on the report of a sh
ooting. Officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second victim was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers were alerted to a third victim, a juvenile, who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The juvenile victim was not shot, police said.
“This is definitely a tragedy,” said San Francisco Police Captain Bernadette Robinson.
For much of the day, police gathered evidence around a white Honda Sedan that was riddled with bullet holes. Family members were seen crying and hugging not far away.
“This is not okay,” said Uzuri Pease-Greene, who runs the community organization care in the neighborhood. She complained that cameras that are already posted in the area need to be readjusted to provide more of a deterrent.
“The cameras that are up are not covering the way they should. There are too many blind spots. They're not angled the correct way. We've been saying this for years,” Pease-Greene said. “So now, we have a young man whose family is over here — they have to watch to see him laying down in the street. They also have a baby that got hit and another young lady who's at the hospital. This should not be going on with cameras that aren't catching anything,” she said.
During a news conference held Friday afternoon, SFPD officials said that no arrests have been made. Homicide detectives are currently working to review surveillance cameras in the area.
Police are hoping witnesses will come forward with information and cameras that are already in place will provide help in tracking down the shooter.
“Video cameras play a major role in all of our investigations,” Robinson said. “We plan to pull cameras from every available resource. So that is the plan, and that is actually what's in the works,” she said.
Fire officials told KRON4 that Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, located at 1001 Potrero Avenue, was on lockdown following the shooting.
The public is advised to avoid the area as law enforcement remains at the scene for its investigation.
Police called the shooting an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing public threat.
