AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police are looking for a white pickup truck that was involved in a fiery crash with a tractor-trailer and another vehicle on Interstate 64 in Augusta County on Thursday. The crash occurred at 9:33 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, on I-64 near the South Delphine A venue exit. According to a release from state police, a tractor-trailer with an oversized load was traveling east in the right lane at approximately 35 mph -- with pilot vehicles positioned in front of and behind it -- when a white pickup truck headed in the same direction abruptly changed lanes to avoid the pilot vehicle, cutting off a white Subaru in the left lane. The Subaru then braked suddenly and lost control, hitting the tractor-trailer’s rear passenger side. Police said the vehicle crossed back into the right lane and then into the median, where it hit an embankment and caught fire. "The driver and a juvenile passenger were assisted from the vehicle by passersby prior to the vehicle becoming fully engulfed," the release from Virginia State Police reads. "Both were transported to UVA Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries." Police said the pickup truck continued east on I-64 without stopping. "The vehicle is described as a white pickup truck with a camper shell on the bed and orange reflective tape around the top of the shell," the release reads. "The driver was described as an adult white male with a beard." The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the pickup truck is encouraged to contact Virginia State Police Division 1 Dispatch at #77 on a cellular phone or 540-444-778. ...read more read less
