(KRON) -- An investigation into alleged animal abuse at a Santa Rosa property uncovered more than 800 roosters and evidence of a cockfighting operation on Wednesday, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). The search warrant executed at the property in the 3000 block of Stony Poin t Road found 833 roosters, along with slashers, timers, identification bands, betting slips, veterinary medication and small denomination currency, which the sheriff’s office said is consistent with bird fighting. Saul Villalobos-Delacruz, 30, of Santa Rosa, was arrested and booked into jail on animal cruelty charges. Authorities said he was later released on pre-trial supervision. SCSO's Rural Crimes Task Force and detectives with the Property Crimes, Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Investigations unit were involved in the search, plus patrol deputies, code enforcement officers and Sonoma County Animal Services officers. ...read more read less
