The Spurs are on a 10-game winning streak, and tonight they can make it go to 11, like the knobs on Nigel Tufnel’s guitar amp. Tonight, they face the Brooklyn Nets, who are currently on a 5-game losing streak, and are stuck in the Eastern Conference cellar, with only the Pacers beneath them. The Silver and Black has had a bad tendency to not put away bad teams early this year, and that has resulted in a few bad losses, most notably to the Grizzlies, the Jazz, and Pelicans. Lately, the Spurs seem to have done a better job of not playing down to the competition, putting away the Suns and Jazz in blowouts during the current win streak. They are going to need to maintain the same focus tonight in Brooklyn, where the New York crowd will be loud and boisterous in the Barclays Center. The Nets have talent and Nic Claxton always has a big night when he faces the Spurs, as his range makes it difficult for Wembanyama to cover him and also act as a backstop in the paint for the defense.
The team will be a bit tired on the second night of a back-to-back where the Raptors played the kind of physical defense that teams have been throwing at the Silver and Black to disrupt the offense lately. This could be a game where the Spurs could put things away early and rest up for Sunday’s game a few miles west in Madison Square Garden, but that would require a fast start from the road weary Rodeo Trippers. Keldon Johnson may be limited with a shoulder injury he picked up in the Toronto game, and that would definitely weaken the Spurs bench. Dylan Harper has been playing at a high level recently, and if he has another solid game, it could lead to some extra rest for the starters tonight. GOOO Spurs GOO!!
Game Prediction:
Mitch Johnson shows up at the game with a black eye, due to an unfortunate pregame snowball fight injury.
