(KRON) -- The Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has approved sweeping layoffs as it works to close a $100 million budget deficit. At Wednesday night’s meeting, board members voted to cut more than 400 jobs. Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell called the financial situation an emergency. Th e district has until June 30 to finalize a balanced budget plan. If it fails to do so, OUSD could face a potential state takeover.
