A 34-year-old security guard has been charged with murder in San Francisco, but the defense in the case is claiming it was self-defense. On Wednesday morning, the judge heard arguments about whether or not the accused, Sefanaia Alatini, should remain in detention after killing someone during an a rgument at a parking lot in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Prosecutors argue he is a convicted felon who poses a public safety risk. The defense Wednesday morning offered insight into the shooting, saying Alatini was acting in self-defense. Public defenders made the case that the accused is a beloved member of his community and has specific medical needs that require attention outside of county jail. Prosecutors on Tuesday argued that Alatini should be held without bail based on a prior conviction from 2013 in Hawaii, which is reflected in an additional count charge against him. NBC Bay Area’s Ginger Conejero Saab has the full report in the video above. ...read more read less
