Remember when we yearned for those first snowflakes of winter to fall? Collectively, we’re over it. Light flakes were met with groaning and sighs across New York City early Wednesday as another inch or so fell — meager, but enough to compound the very real snow fatigue plaguing the tri-state . And yet, our next storm system comes Thursday afternoon. Most models take the system south of our area but the American model, which was most bullish early on the blizzard prediction, has a much farther northern track, which could deliver some snow and rain Thursday afternoon and evening. Commutes may be impacted, were that the case. The highest probability of seeing some mixed precipitation including some rain is for coastal southern New Jersey. Many areas may stay dry. Beyond that, the start of our weekend is looking pretty good with sunshine and upper 40s close to 50 for Saturday. Saturday into Sunday we could have some snow showers to our north as an arctic front moves through with more clouds and slightly cooler temperatures expected on Sunday. This late weekend unsettled pattern will continue into next week, with several systems that could bring periods of snow—and possibly rain through Wednesday. The more notable window comes Monday into Monday night, when a low‑pressure system tries to pass to our south. How much snow we see will depend on how strong the high pressure over us is: If it holds firm, the system stays suppressed and we see little or no accumulation; if it weakens, snow becomes more likely.  New York City might need those emergency snow shovelers again, President Trump. The president poked fun at Mamdani in his Tuesday night State of the Union speech over ID requirements for temp snow removal jobs. Another system could follow Tuesday night into Wednesday, but that one is even more uncertain and may start as snow before mixing with or changing to rain if it tracks farther north. Bottom line: there are multiple chances for snow next week, but confidence on timing and amounts is still low and details will continue to evolve. NYC Schools Feb 23 ‘Impassable!'
