FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A bill known as “Logan’s Law” is now headed to the Kentucky Senate after clearing the House with strong bipartisan support. Lawmakers say House Bill 422 passed the House in a 93-1 vote and focuses on strengthening sentencing guidelines while limiting pa role and early release options for certain offenders. The legislation is named in memory of six-year-old Logan Tipton, who was stabbed to death while he slept at his family’s home in Versailles in 2015. According to court records previously reported, Ronald Exantus was charged in the case. In 2018, a court found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity. He was, however, sentenced to 20 years in prison on assault charges connected to the stabbing of Logan’s family members. Exantus was released early last year under mandatory re-entry supervision but was later arrested in Florida for allegedly violating the terms of that release. Supporters of the bill say Logan’s Law aims to prevent similar situations by tightening sentencing policies and limiting opportunities for early release. The measure will now move to the Kentucky Senate for consideration.
