Investigators Determine Cause of Bridge Fire, Collapse Monday in West Lincoln

collapse early Monday morning west of downtown Lincoln.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue sent out a text alert to KFOR News and other media, indicating the cause was an “unattended campfire.” The fire was called in around 3:45am Monday, with a bridge that carries the Union Pacific rail line burning along Salt Creek east of Sun Valley Boulevard, not far from Haymarket Park and the Breslow Ice Center.

It was around 5:30am Monday when the bridge collapsed on the west side of Salt Creek. Fire crews were later called back shortly after 10am Monday about a rekindling of the fire.
There were no reports of injuries and damage estimates have not yet been released, but LFR considered it a total loss.
