Authorities are searching for the driver who fatally struck a 62-year-old man in San Marcos over the weekend and took off. Carey Faust, 62, was standing behind his parked vehicle in the 100 block of North Pacific Street in San Marcos when a white 2022 Hyundai Venue struck him at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office. Faust died at the scene, and the suspect, believed to be a man, was last seen on foot heading northbound toward Mission Avenue, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. “The best person they ever met. The most loving, trustworthy, hard-working,” his sister, Vicki Faust said. Faust called himself a “mobile American” and didn’t have a roof over his head, but he made a name for himself with the landscape company he owned for over 35 years. He was parked in front of Prime Storage, where he kept his landscape gear, and was getting something out of his truck when he was struck. “Why they haven’t found him so fast. They have the vehicle; they must have evidence in that vehicle,” Vicki Faust said. “He can’t live free because my brother can’t.” Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station at (760) 510-5200. ...read more read less
