Bay Area cashstrapped school districts face uncertainty
Feb 24, 2026
Parents across the Bay Area will make another pitch to keep their children’s cash-strapped schools open.
On Feb. 8, the union that represents Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) teachers authorized a strike after not reaching a deal on a new contract.
The district and the teacher’s union
will participate in a fact-finding hearing before a neutral third party.
When both parties reach an impasse, they hold a fact-finding hearing. If no settlement comes from the hearing, the union would be able to go on strike.
Last week, DUSD decided against cutting more than 30 full-time positions.
The school board will meet again Tuesday to discuss other options to save money that the district said is necessary due to checking enrollment and budget shortfalls.
Parents, teachers and students are expected to make their voices heard at the meeting Tuesday.
Meanwhile in the South Bay, a special committee with the San Jose Unified School District will meet Tuesday to discuss which schools could close.
NBC Bay Area’s Bob Redell has the full report in the video above.
