Funeral services Monday for Ofc. Brian Eliott INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Family, friends, and the community will gather Monday morning at Beech Grove High School to honor and celebrate the life of Beech Grove police officer Brian Elliott. Elliott, 33, was shot and killed while he and his partner were responding to a domestic disturbance at a Beech Grove apartment complex on Monday, Feb. 16. The suspect in Elliott’s murder, 47-year-old Kenneth Johnson, pleaded not guilty to all charges during a Friday morning court appearance. Prosecutors are seeking life without parole; however, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears (D) told the media after Friday’s hearing that the death penalty is a “consideration.” Visitation for Eliott and a flag presentation ceremony were held on Sunday at Beech Grove High School. “I am in a brown uniform, but we all bleed blue. People say there is a ‘thin blue line,’ but there isn’t. It’s a thick blue line,” Cpl. Justin Reeder, Porter County Sheriff’s Office, told News 8 on Sunday. “It’s not just law enforcement officers, it’s the community members who are going to come here here…to visit Brian.” Elliott’s funeral service at Beech Grove High School will begin at 11 a.m. Monday and is open to the public. A procession to Crown Hill Cemetery is expected to start around 12:45 p.m., followed by a graveside service. Instead of flowers, Elliott’s family says the public is invited to donate to Pepper’s Pals Cat Rescue in Indianapolis. News 8 will have live coverage of Officer Brian Elliott’s funeral service and funeral procession beginning at 11 a.m. Viewers can watch on-air, online, and on the official WISH-TV YouTube and Facebook pages. ...read more read less
