That creates dangerous whiteout conditionsThe forecast shows 12-18 inches of snow expected for NYC, along with central Jersey and Nassau County. Some farther out on Long Island may get as much as two feet.Mayor Mamdani made the Monday call official on Sunday afternoon: no school in person or virtually. But what will he decide for Tuesday It took New York City’s first potential blizzard in years to get kids a traditional snow day (i.e. no online learning), so what will be in store for them on Tuesday? That’s the mayor’s call. Mayor Zohran Mamdani gave kids Monday off as the powerful nor’easter hit. But with the snow set to move on later in the day, and the cleanup to begin, students are wondering if they can get two days off out of it. The mayor will once again make the call about NYC schools for Tuesday during the day on Monday, as he did on Sunday for Monday. Mamdani called Monday the “first old-school snow day since 2019″ — a decision that was praised by the teachers’ union. “And to kids across New York City, you have a very serious mission if you choose to accept it: Stay cozy,” he said. The nation’s largest school district ended its traditional snow day system when it began the 2022-23 school year. Rather than cancel school for the day, district officials implemented the remote learning system that the city developed and utilized throughout the pandemic. It hasn’t been without technical issues but reliability has improved considerably in the years since the remote system rolled out.
