The Eastside Cannery, located east of the Strip on Boulder Highway and closed since the pandemic, will be imploded in the wee hours of March 5. The fate of the shuttered casino had been in limbo for years until it was announced by owner Boyd Gaming that it would not reopen. A physical dismantling ha s been underway for several weeks, but the 16-story tower will be destroyed by the first implosion of a casino since the Tropicana dropped in October 2024. It will take place at 2 a.m. and, unlike several before it, will not be made into a public event, with no dedicated viewing areas.
