College Wrap: Princeton men’s lacrosse edges Maryland thanks to Croddick’s late save
Feb 21, 2026
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — If the opener ended in a dud, then the second game of the season was an absolute delight.
Goalie Ryan Croddick made a save in the final seconds and Princeton held off Maryland’s late surge for a 13-12 victory at SECU Stadium.
The Tigers (1-1) snapped a nine-game losing streak
against the Terrapins (1-2). Princeton’s last win over Maryland was in the 2004 quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.

Five different players scored twice as part of a balanced offensive attack for the Tigers.
Jake Vana’s goal with 6:48 remaining gave Princeton at 13-9 lead before Maryland roared back with three straight goals. The home side pulled to within one on Chris Lyons’ tally with 1:27 remaining.
Andrew McMeekin won the face-off, and the Tigers took exactly a minute off the clock before turning it over, giving Maryland a chance to tie it. After two replay reviews to check the time and one Maryland shot that would have been Princeton’s ball had it not hit one of the officials and stayed in bounds, the Terps had a restart with nine seconds on the clock.
Matt Higgins took the ball behind the cage and fed it in front to Elijah Stobaugh, who got a shot off with two seconds to go. The ball was headed into the far side of the net, which would have meant the game was headed into overtime — until Croddick stabbed it and then controlled it, pouncing on the loose ball as time expired.
