Long Island child therapist gets 7 years for sharing videos of babies being raped

A Long Island child therapist who admitted to sharing graphic videos featuring men raping screaming babies was sentenced on Friday to seven years in prison.
Renee “Rina” Hoberman, of Plainview, pleaded guilty last June to collecting and distributing violent child pornography while working as a m
ental health counselor in Melville, serving children from birth to 17 years old.
State records show she became licensed in 2020, but had to surrender her license in April of last year after she failed to defend herself against the allegations.
According to prosecutors, Hoberman used encrypted apps to upload and trade photos and videos, including several depicting “infants 6 months to 1 year of age, frantically screaming while being physically restrained and raped by adult males.”
In online chats, the 38-year-old also pretended to be the father of several victims, claiming “he” raped and punished the children while others watched, the feds said. In one case, prosecutors said she invited another user to visit the family home and participate in the abuse.
Hoberman’s online activity spurred several tips to the National Center for Missing Exploited Children, according to the complaint against her.
She was taken into custody on Oct. 23, 2024 and has remained incarcerated since her arrest.
When Homeland Security agents raided her Plainview home, they found even more child pornography and evidence she uploaded the material to several messaging apps, including Telegram and Kik.
She told the agents that she’s sexually aroused by violent depictions of children from infancy to age 3, the complaint states.
“The absolute depravity of Renee Hoberman’s crimes, committed while she was entrusted as a mental health counselor for children, represents a staggering betrayal of the public trust and a horrific violation of innocent lives,” HSI Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso said when announcing her sentence.
