PEARL DISTRICT — República, which served what it called “Mexico-forward,” seasonal produce-driven tasting menus and a la carte dishes unlike any
other in Portland, announced on Wednesday, January 28, that it would be closing its doors on Saturday, February 21. The tasting menu incorporated ingredients rarely seen in Portland like chicatanas, huitlacoche, and heirloom yellow beans, earning accolades from local publications, a James Beard Award semifinalist nod, and a write-up in the New York Times. Owner Angel Medina wrote about the impending closure on Substack, stating that business dramatically dropped in the spring of 2025, and cited concern for staff’s safety in light of heightened immigration enforcement. Due to demand, República has pushed back its closing date — its last service will now be on Saturday, March 7, so there’s still time to book one last reservation.
SUNNYSIDE — Stumptown Coffee (Belmont) announced on Instagram that its SE Belmont Street location would be closing on Saturday, February 28. The post reads, “Our decision to close this location is due to the high cost of refurbishing the space to meet today’s needs. So, while this chapter is coming to a close, our commitment to Portland is not. We’re actively looking for our next cafe home and look forward to welcoming you there when the time comes.”
SUNNYSIDE — Neighborhood Pacific Northwest-meets-Italian restaurant 3 Doors Down, which originally opened in 1994, is closing on Saturday, February 28. The restaurant, located just off SE Hawthorne Boulevard, briefly closed in late 2024 but reopened in May 2025 under its original owner, Dave Marth. Bridgetown Bites reported on the closure and interviewed Marth, who cited rising food costs, energy costs, and the overall economic climate as contributors to the closure.
BROOKLYN — The Place, a cozy cider bar just off busy SE Powell Boulevard, announced via Instagram on Tuesday, February 10, that it would be closing in two weeks. “Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our strange, beautiful joyous living room of passionate freaks,” the post reads. The bar’s last day will be Saturday, February 21, or Sunday, February 22, depending on stock, and the bar will also be offering deals on its remaining cider.
BOISE — Papa’s Frita, a Nicaraguan restaurant-in-residence at Migration Brewing’s location on North Williams Avenue announced via Instagram that it would be closing Sunday, February 15. The restaurant served fritanga, a classic Nicaraguan dish consisting of rice and beans, meat, plantains, and fried cheese, as well as an array of burgers. “This is by no means the end of Papa’s Frita so until we find a new permanent home again please stay tuned for news on upcoming projects, pop-ups, and catering,” the post reads.
RICHMOND — The Landmark Saloon, a bar, known for its live country music, announced on Instagram on Tuesday, February 10, that its last day would be Friday, February 13. CONCORDIA — Expatriate was known for having some of the finest cocktails in town, plus serious bar food to match, from burgers to wonton nachos to Burmese tea leaf salad. Bartender Kyle Linden Webster and his business partner and wife, the late chef Naomi Pomeroy opened the bar in 2013. In mid-February, ahead of the Valentine’s Day weekend, the bar closed without warning. A Reddit user essentially broke the news of the bar’s closure by posting a photo of a sign on the door that read, “Life is just a party, and parties weren’t meant to last. Our privilege, these 4,595 nights. Thank you.” Expatriate’s website states that the bar’s last day of service was Sunday, February 8.
WOODSTOCK — According to Bridgetown Bites, Bridge City Pizza announced its closure via Facebook on Saturday, January 24, stating that the pizzeria would make its final pies that weekend. Bridge City was known for its Chicago-style thin-crust pizza and Italian beef sandwiches.
