A 21-year-old Long Island man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his sister in the face with a crossbow, Nassau County police said Tuesday. Suspect Samy Sedhom, of Lawrence, was also in possession of a samurai sword when he was arrested for trying to kill the 28-year-old victim on Friday. Officers responded to a residence on West Avenue in Lawrence just before 9:30 p.m. to find a “female bleeding from a laceration on the right side of her face,” police said in a press release. An investigation soon determined Sedhom fired an arrow from a crossbow that narrowly missed fatally wounding his sister. Sedhom allegedly waited in his vehicle across the street from his family’s home for his older sibling to return from the gym, according to WABC. After parking her car in the garage, the victim tried punching in a code to close the garage door when a projectile grazed her face. Upon arriving to the scene, police reportedly saw an arrow lodged into the back wall of the garage. The woman was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition on Tuesday. The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office claims the siblings had been arguing about the temperature in their home, according to court documents obtained by News 12 Long Island. “She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer,” said DA Anne Donnelly. Investigators reportedly said the suspect confessed to plotting the murder of his sister since Christmas. A samurai sword and the box from the crossbow were found in his bedroom, reported WABC. Sedhom was arrested without incident Saturday and arraigned on Sunday, according to court records. He’s being held without bail and is due back in court on Wednesday. Sedhom pleaded not guilty to an attempted murder charge that carries a maximum prison sentence of 25 years. He’s also accused of assault, stalking, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence. His sister has been granted a temporary order of protection, court records show. Donnelly said Sedhom could have been facing murder charges if the arrow had struck his victim just a few inches over. ...read more read less
