Following his death, several community leaders and figures expressed their condolences and respect for Elliott. Read through the statements below. Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott. Officer Elliott, along with two other Beech Grove Police Department officers, was dispatched at 6:08 p.m. to the 100 block of Diplomat Court for a disturbance. After they arrived, Officer Elliott and another officer were shot. Both officers were rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the best lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Officer Elliott succumbed to his injuries. The other officer, who we are not naming at this time, is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive. My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this. We are grateful to the team at Eskenazi Hospital, and our law enforcement and community partners for their extraordinary response and support. Marion County Sheriff’s Office Brian Elliott was employed by the MCSO as a Deputy for six years. The majority of his time with the MCSO was served in the Sex and Violent Offender Registry (SOVO) Unit. The SOVO unit is a highly sought-after position at the MCSO as it allows deputies to serve their community in a unique, hands-on way. Brian also served as a reserve deputy for a number of years.  Many amongst the MCSO ranks were very close friends of Officer Brian Elliott.  He was well-respected and loved by his peers, and leaves behind fond memories in the hearts of many. Officer Elliott left the MCSO in 2024 to return to his hometown of Beech Grove to police and serve his city. We offer our thoughts and prayers to Officer Elliott’s friends and family.  “Officer Brian Elliott protected and served his community right to the very last minute of his life,” said Sherriff Kerry Forestal in a statement.
