INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana is expected to see record-breaking temperatures on Wednesday before a strong storm system brings the potential for severe weather on Thursday.
Today:
Some patchy areas of fog have been noted in eastern Indiana, but
this should not be as widespread or dense as what we experienced Monday.
Meanwhile, look for more clouds moving in later this afternoon. High temperatures top out in the upper 50s.
Tonight:
Clouds will hang tough overnight as a warm front pushes through from south to north. On and off light showers will be possible through the overnight.
Meanwhile, temperatures will be much warmer, only dipping into the lower/middle 50s.
Wednesday:
Rain chances continue through the morning hours, Wednesday. A few rumbles of thunder will be possible, mainly in far northern counties across the state.
Once the cold front moves through, skies will clear and temperatures will warm quickly. Indy should reach a high of 69 degrees on Wednesday. This temperature would break the previous record of 66 degrees, which was established in 2017.
Thursday:
A strong low-pressure system is expected to track toward the Midwest on Thursday, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms. High enough dew points, along with gusty winds aloft should be plenty high enough for this time of year to promote a severe weather risk, with all modes of severe weather in play. Central and southern Indiana are in a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms. The main window for severe weather will be from 10am to 4pm Thursday.
7 day forecast:
Once the Thursday system moves out, we make a return to reality for the weekend into early next week. Highs fall to the 40s and 30s Saturday and Sunday, with a chance for a rain/snow mix Saturday. Lake effect snow showers will be possible on Monday.
