Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an intoxicated driver last week during a traffic stop they initiated because of a license plate violation. Deputies pulled the vehicle over on Feb. 11 because the driver did not have a license plate displayed, according to a shift report. Howeve r, they smelled alcohol inside the car, and the driver admitted to drinking. The driver also had an open container of alcohol near him, and he performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies arrested him and booked him into the Summit County Jail on a suspected DUI. The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 15, including stranded motorists and outstanding arrest warrants. Saturday, Feb. 14 Deputies reportedly observed a suspicious vehicle at a store in Jeremy Ranch after business hours. The car drove away when they attempted to contact the driver and failed to maintain its lane of travel. Deputies stopped the car and determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was booked on a suspected DUI, as well as an active arrest warrant. Thursday, Feb. 12 Summit County Search and Rescue was called to assist a stranded motorist. Tuesday, Feb. 10 Search and Rescue responded to a motorist on Upper Setting Road who had driven five miles into the canyon and gotten stuck in the snow. Heber Valley Tow assisted in retrieving the vehicle. Deputies were dispatched to a gas station in Silver Creek after they received reports of a man asleep at the wheel in front of a gas pump. The man woke up when deputies knocked on his window. Investigators described him as “unsteady” and saw empty pill bottles in the car. The man was unable to stand on his own, and the Park City Fire District transported him to the hospital. He was then arrested under suspicion of DUI.
