Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department Enforcement Division agents arrested Eurell D. Johnson, 25, of New Roads, charging him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of marijuana and possession of a live alligator. Agents said they were patrolling the French Quarter when they saw Johnson walking down the 400 block of Bourbon Street with the 4-foot alligator about 1:30 a.m. The officers seized the alligator and turned it over to the wildlife department biologist on call. They booked Johnson into the Orleans Parish jail. If convicted, Johnson faces a fine of up to $5,000 and up to 20 years in jail for illegally carrying a gun as a convicted felon, a fine of up to $95 and up to 120 days in jail for posseission of a live alligator and a $100 fine for illegal possession of marijuana. A convicted felon in possession of a firearm brings a $1,000 to $5,000 fine and five to 20 years in jail. Illegal possession of a live alligator carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Illegal possession of marijuana carries a $100 fine.
