A 59-year-old woman died and a 6-year-old boy was injured after they were struck by a driver in Hayward Saturday night, according to police. The collision happened at about 6:21 p.m. near the intersection of West Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street, police said. The woman and boy were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the woman later died. The boy suffered facial fractures but is expected to survive, according to police. The driver, a 60-year-old man from Hayward, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the collision. An investigation is underway.
