Search for Nancy Guthrie intensifies: Former San Jose PD detective chimes in
Feb 14, 2026
It has been two weeks since Nancy Guthrie went missing, and the search has intensified.
It was a quieter Saturday in Tucson, after a busy all-hands search Friday night at a home less than two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s.
SWAT and forensics teams were called in, along with the FBI, Pima County
Sheriff’s officers, and local police from surrounding agencies, all coordinating in the most significant law enforcement operation since Guthrie disappeared two weeks ago.
Neighbors watched with anticipation, but the search ended late this afternoon with no arrests, and with investigators saying they’re now leaning toward other leads.
The main suspect, which is the man seen in Guthrie’s Nest doorbell video recovered from the night she was believed to be taken, is still unknown to investigators.
“At 14 days there are some very legitimate concerns,” said Michael Leininger, law enforcement analyst and former San Jose police detective.
Leininger believes keeping the case in the public eye is critical to investigators, as more tips come in.
“When you’re looking at 14 days into an investigation, the exigency is still there, the hope of successful recovery of Nancy Guthrie is still there, the fervor has to be maintained,” Leininger said.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Savannah’s mom, or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
Investigators have also recovered DNA collected at Nancy Guthrie’s property, which the Pima County Sheriff’s Department says does not belong to Guthrie or anyone close to her.
Another major development Saturday: investigators say they’re now leaning away from any relatives of the Guthrie family as suspects but not officially ruling anyone out until the case is solved.
Leininger’s message to Tucson residents: keep an open mind, and report anything that appeared out of the ordinary in recent weeks.
“You would be surprised how many times people have information but they don’t think it’s important enough to report it and it runs out to be incredibly important to solving the case,” Leininger said.
A sheriff’s deputy was stationed in the driveway of Guthrie’s home Saturday, and the Tucson community continues to show support for the Guthrie family, many buying yellow flowers for Nancy and putting their messages and prayers on a banner outside her house.
