A 92-year-old woman was killed in an accidental fire in South Jersey on Friday morning, police said. On Feb. 13, 2026, police said that a fire broke out at around 1:20 a.m. in Stafford Township in Ocean County. Two people were able to escape the home, but a 92-year-old woman, identified as B etty Matero, was unable to escape the fire and died from her injuries, police said. The two people who escaped were taken to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition, police said.
